Quality regulation and assurance in early childhood education and care (ECEC) has been part of the German ECEC debate since the 1990s and gained more importance with the expansion of settings for under three-year-olds. In other countries approaches to quality regulation and assurance have been put into practice in different ways over the past few years. At the same time efforts of international organisations to develop and assure quality in ECEC have increased.

The International Center Early Childhood Education and Care (ICEC) at the German Youth Institute (DJI) and the German Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ) cordially invite you to reflect on different possibilities of quality regulation and assurance in ECEC. In exchange with national and international experts from politics, research and practice the following questions will be discussed in plenary sessions and thematic workshops:

  • Which perspectives and concepts are related to quality?
  • How can quality in ECEC be developed and assured?
  • How can data gained from quality observations be used?
  • Which sustainable approaches to quality regulation and which assessment methods are needed?
  • How can stakeholders at all different levels be involved?

Conference languages are German and English. German and English contributions will be translated simultaneously.
